To write or not to write??

Eve's lung tagged me to write about things I wanted to write about but could not get to actually doing it.Here I go-

I wanted to write about the young girl in Gawahati who was stripped and molested by those opposing a protest rally by students. I could not bring myself to express in words the agony I felt. This was an instance where words truly failed me.I hang my head in shame that this happens in a country where women are worshiped as Devis.

I wanted to write about a tyrant of a Principal who would treat her employees as if they were her bonded laborers to the extent of holding back their salaries to show how powerful she was.But then I decided that she was not worth a mention let alone a post.I prefer to write about those poor people who stood up to her against all odds.

I wanted to write about my colleagues who were given their full salary after 14 long years. Here again I found myself groping for words unable to express their joy in the right words. But I felt elated that the powers that be finally relented.Ihad written about them here

I wanted to write beautiful poems like Vishesh. But unfortunately they don't sound right. So I leave it to him to delight us with his pieces.

I wanted to write a piece on life in a typical Tambram home some 40 years back.I haven't done it out of sheer laziness.May be I'll do it one day.

I wanted to write about arranged marriages from a parent's perspective.I dare not do so for fear of alienating a good number of my readers. So I keep my views to myself. You my readers are too precious to lose.

I hope I have done justice to the tag.I invite anyone interested to carry it forward.

i wish u wud write wht u feel without hving to worry abt ur readers reactions..if u do, u will lose wht has attracted them to u in the first place..

just write and if u r judged for it, so be it... :)

"I write for myself" I know it is not entirely true. We do keep our audience in mind while writing. But I also agree with TOI (there I go contradicting myself). Please do write what you feel like esp on arranged marriages. I, for one, am all ears for it. I would like to know a different perpective too.

Would enjoy reading about the account of a Tambram household of yore as it would remind me of my friend Vidya and her Pati and the house where I used to spend a lot of time. Cant get that lovely fragrance of camphor, coconut and sandalwood out of my head still after all these years .

I did not have an arranged marriage , neither did my parents, aunts and uncles but I would like to know your views . As Usha says , if not on a post by e mail (mallika.ganguly@gmail.com)

we need to listen to such lovely stories....
And so what if u don't write poetry...there's poetry in your thoughts...U think so beautifully...

And you know when u said u wanted to refrain from talking about arranged marraiges...I wondered....but its ok to write about it...its your opinions not your decisions being slapped on the readers..so go ahead and write...we'd love to read...

Hi all,
With so many of you guiving the green signal may i will finally write about a parent's perspective on arranged marriage the way it was seen both by my generation as well as that of my mother's.It may make my readers to come out with their stand on the issue and there is bound to be a convergence of views about the merits and demerits of both kinds of marriage aptly named as catch and match marriages by a friend of mine.

Life as it was in my grandfather's house 45 years back was very interesting in its own way.No TV an occasional movie and the preparation and anticipation that went with it, the very thought brings tears to my eyes. will share my experience soon.
